What a way to treat a child! Religious bigots at their worst

The story of a 10-year-old Christian girl getting arrested for allegedly burning pages of a Quran is very sad. Though it has happened in Pakistan, it should concern us all. For it shows religious bigotry as it exists and the shameful manner in which children are treated in our world today.

It has not yet been proved that the little girl burnt the pages. Only that the book with burnt pages was found on her. Even if she had burnt the book, should a child be arrested and neighbours bay for her blood?  Isn't there a more civilised way of making the child realise that what she did was wrong?

By arresting her, all that has been achieved is that religious bigotry has been strengthened. What a shame! How should society handle such a case? Any suggestions?
