Men in power and their views on sex and rape

I thought India had more than its share of mad men occupying positions of power who were so messed up in the manner in which they viewed women. But with Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin's priceless comments on "legitimate and illegitimate rape", we can safely assume that such men are everywhere. Here is an interesting post by Kritika Kapoor of  The Times of India -  Bizarre things politicos say about sex, rape

Another article worth a read is what appeared in the Chicago Sun Times about Rep. Todd Akin’s comments proving the need for sex ed in schools. We in India need to do so in our schools too! But our legislators who have been caught watching sleazy videos during assembly sessions, are quick to strike down any suggestion for sex education for the youngsters.

Some questions for Andhra top cop - Dinesh Reddy

A factor behind the increasing number of rape cases is that women dress provocatively.
This is a considered view of one of India's top cops, the Director General of  Police, Andhra Pradesh, V Dinesh Reddy. He also thinks the salwar kameez is a provoking dress!

What does he want us to do? Cover ourselves with a chadar and lock outrselves at home - Taliban style?

And Mr Dinesh Reddy,  tell us why are children and babies raped? And elderly women? And women in burkhas? Why is there incest?

Kudos to home minister,  P Chidambaram for taking objection to the remark. He is reported to have strongly disagreed with the statement. To read a full report click here.

Now, how do we educate men like Reddy?
